The demand for hybrid and electric vehicles has greatly increased in recent years. Understanding the key components of these systems is essential for anyone in the automotive or energy sectors.

The Hybrid and Electric Vehicles program provides a comprehensive foundation in four essential areas: electrical energy storage, battery management and safety, electric machines, and hybrid vehicle technologies. Each self-paced online course dives into critical concepts and strategies, equipping learners to navigate and contribute to this evolving field.

Learning Objectives

  • Summarize the foundational principles of hybrid and electric vehicle systems, including energy storage, electric machines, and control concepts.
  • Explain the design, functionality, and challenges of key components such as batteries, battery management systems, and electric machines.
  • Analyze the performance characteristics and limitations of energy storage technologies, electric machines, and hybrid vehicle architectures.
  • Apply modeling, control, and design techniques to optimize battery systems, electric drive systems, and hybrid powertrains.
  • Discuss the motivations for vehicle electrification and identify strategies to address the challenges of developing and implementing hybrid and electric vehicle technologies.
  • Integrate knowledge from all four areas to evaluate and contribute to advancements in hybrid and electric vehicle systems.

Program Overview

The program is fully online and self-paced. Learners can complete each individual course to earn a badge or complete all 4 courses to earn a program certificate.

Each course contains 4-6 hours of online instruction. Individual courses must be completed within 60 days. If purchasing the full HEV program as a bundle, all courses must be completed in 180 days.
