Our Minimum Quality Standards

At the forefront of our work is a commitment to quality and accessible learning opportunities. We ensure that all ME-OPE courses meet federal accreditation and accessibility standards. Additionally, all ME-OPE Instructional Designers are certified in Quality Matters (QM)– the leading quality assurance framework for online learning environments. 

As an additional layer of quality assurance, all ME-OPE courses are designed in alignment with our Minimum Quality Standards. These research-based standards focus on five important areas of course design:

Instructional Technology

Our team builds educational content in both the Canvas learning management system and in the Articulate 360 Suite. Articulate 360 is a comprehensive suite of online tools and resources designed for creating interactive and engaging digital learning experiences. We recommend Canvas for internal and/or university-credit courses and Articulate 360, specifically Rise 360, for other projects.

Meet Our Instructional Design Team

R. Joy Walters

Instructional Design Manager

Joy Walters has taught and worked as an instructional designer in higher education for nearly twenty years. Joy has a Master’s degree in Digital Rhetoric and Professional Writing from Michigan State University

Rachel Whitney

Instructional Designer

Rachel Whitney is an Instructional Designer with a passion for creating impactful learning experiences. Rachel holds a post-graduate certificate in Instructional and Training Systems Design and Learning Technologies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and has worked in higher education since 2015. Favoring a learner-centered approach, Rachel designs courses that foster curiosity and meaningful engagement.

Kimberly Alberts, PhD

Instructional Designer

Kimberly Alberts comes to Instructional Design from K-12 education where she taught high school Psychology in Quito, Ecuador. She completed her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Educational Technology in 2023 at Michigan State University where she specialized in student motivation and engagement research. Kimberly draws on this work to assist faculty in designing engaging and motivating online learning spaces!
